Can You Tell Me How To Get.......

My favorite TV show as a little girl was Sesame Street, hands down, and my favorite character was Big Bird. According to my mom I was going to marry Big Bird when I grew up. I figure Jim is pretty happy I grew out of that.
Jim also grew up watching Sesame Street. His favorite character was The Count and we still have a Sesame Street storybook from my childhood.
Jacob was an Elmo freak when he was little. Everything was Elmo and for his 2nd birthday he had an Elmo party. Later when he was in 6th grade he and his friends decided to dress up like Sesame Street characters for Halloween. Jacob was Elmo and his friends were Cookie Monster, Ernie, and the Count. Here's the catch, they were hip hop Sesame Street characters complete with there fake bling and crazy clothing. Given this love for all things Sesame Street it was only natural that Alexa fell in love with these wonderful characters. Elmo and Abby are her two favorites. She yells when she sees them on TV, kisses and hugs her stuffed Elmo and Abby toys and says hi to them every time she sees them in a book. When Sesame Street Live came to town Jim & I were so excited to take her to see it. Jacob had a basketball tournament so he had to miss it. I think he was okay with that.

Alexa say's hi to everyone, every where we go. She is incredibly social and confident. Today however we had a different little girl with us. Before the show we had a chance to meet Elmo and Cookie Monster. Alexa was scared to death. As soon as we started to walk her toward them she grabbed a hold of Jim and wouldn't let go. It was so unlike her.

Alexa sat perfectly and watched the show, never leaving Daddy's lap and keeping her eye on the stage. I think she was making sure her Sesame Street friends stayed on stage. By the 2nd half she became much more comfortable and left Daddy's lap to move a little closer to the stage. She danced a little and smiled every time we said to her, "Is that Elmo? Is that Abby?"

I'm not sure who had more fun, the kids or the parents. When the Elmo came out to do Elmo's World, all the parents were singing just as loud as the children. I'll admit I was too.  I think we just enjoy watching our children so happy. A key moment for me was when they performed the song Sing. You might remember it. It goes like this - Sing, Sing a Song, Sing out loud, Sing out strong. Sing of good times not bad, sing of happy not sad..... tears began to flow as I watched my little girl enjoy a song from my childhood and enjoying the friends I loved at her age.
Thank you God for this chance to share this treasured moment with my family.

Until next time,
Karri

Family Fun at the Ball Park

On Sunday we were lucky to be invited to go to The San Francisco Giants vs Oakland A's game in Oakland. This series is traditionally called The Bay Bridge Series as both cities are across the San Francisco Bay from each other. Being Giant's Fans we are always excited to show our colors at the other teams stadium. We apparently were not the only ones with that idea. It was very safe to say that most of the fans were Giants not A's fans for that entire 3 game series.
Sunday was also Jacob's 13th birthday and being the sports family we are a baseball game is the perfect way to celebrate.
When Jacob was a baby we would take him to Giants games all the time. He loved it and would always sit on Jim's lap for all nine innings and watch the game. People would always comment how good he was after the game was over. Alexa has proven to be very different from her brother. She is just to active to sit through a baseball game. We did have a moment when Alexa paid attention. Notice the bottom picture in my collage, the one with my watermark. Check out the pitcher. I know it's hard to see but this guy kept our little Alexa excited for a little while. It's Elmo! Yes Elmo threw out the 1st pitch. Alexa was so excited to see him. Now if he continued to pitch instead of Matt Cain, Alexa probably would have stayed focused but I think Bruce Bochy (the Giants Manager) prefer Cain who recently had a perfect game. The game ended on a sad note for us. The Giants were ahead throughout the entire game. Then in the 9th inning, the A's had a walk-off home run to win the game. So the Giants didn't sweep this series but they did sweep the rival Dodgers in the series earlier this week so we are happy!

Until next time,
Karri

Alexa's 1st Outfit Shadow Box

Your baby's first outfit is a very important piece of clothing. It's one you never hand down to anyone else and it never winds up in the box to donate. Often times you place it in a airtight bag and place it in your hope chest or keepsake box. Other times it just continues to hang in your child's closet until you decide what to do with it. For me it has been the later, Alexa's outfit had been sitting in her closet since she grew out of it almost a year ago.
During a recent trip to HomeGoods I found a beautiful shadow box that was only $14. You can't beat that price so I pickup one up. In hind site I probably should have bought another but oh well. This beautiful new shadow box was the perfect way to display Alexa's outfit.

(Going clockwise) I assembled all the pieces from Alexa's outfit, including the Ugg look alike boots she wore. Her onesie which is hard to see was white with pink trim and covered with pink and purple peace signs. I covered the inside of my box with two different pieces of scrapbook paper. Teresa Collins paper to be specific. The shadow box was covered in an off white canvas which I could have kept as my backdrop but I choose not to for two reasons, 1. I love the paper and 2. I'm using Teresa Collins paper for Alexa's baby book. This will help me keep a cohesive theme in her room. Finally I began playing around with the outfit to see how I wanted to lay it. The shadow box came with pearl tipped push pins which I used to attached the clothing to the inside of the box.

What do you think of my finished box? - I added two pictures from her trip to home and also her bracelet from the hospital. I used regular adhesive to attach them to the clothes.
If you still have your child's first outfit, you might want to consider making a shadow box. If you can find a good deal like I did, it is worth it to display your treasure.

Until next time,
Karri

Nana's Macaroni Salad

When I remember my childhood I can recall dishes that are served at every family gathering. My Nana Tilly's Macaroni Salad is one of them. Since Nana Tilly has been gone my Mom has taken on the role of "macaroni salad" maker for the family. Nana's salad is one of my Dad's favorite salads so we had it on Father's Day.

Doesn't it look yummy. It's so easy to make and will be great for your next summer picnic or potluck. I've also created a printable recipe so you can add it to your recipe collection. (This new trick I learned at the Biannual Blogathon I participated in this weekend. Check out my previous post to learn more about it: Kickoff, Day 2, Final)

Nana's Macaroni Salad

1 pound of precooked and cooled pasta (you can choose macaroni, rigatoni or bow tie pasta)
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped celery
1 teaspoon garlic salt
2 shakes of celery seed.

Mix all together and place in refrigerator to chill for at least an hour. Then serve

Variations: Nana would add chopped olives and dill pickles;
Mom sometimes makes it with baby shrimp and Cheyenne pepper.
Enjoy!!

Until next time,
Karri

I've Finished the Biannual Blogathon Bash

Biannual Blogathon Bash

I've completed my first Blogathon and I'm so sad it's over. I met some wonderful bloggers who have been a great help and support. I'm looking forward to staying in touch with them and participating in the winter blogathon.
I spent about 15 hours total over the 3 days on my to do list and participating in the challenges. The goal was 24 but I'm happy with 15 since it was a very busy weekend for our family.
I was able to complete almost everything on my list, I just need to finish my blog/work/family schedule. I am almost done with it. Probably I will be done before bed time.

If you need a refresher here is my to-do list: Everything in black was from my update post from yesterday. I'm using purple for today's update.

Here are the things I hope to accomplish
1. Update my About Me section
2. Change my Follow Me buttons - had a problem with one button but with help from other blogathon participants I should have the problem solved today I was able to finally fix my problem with my RSS feed button thanks to the amazing participants of the blogathon.
3. Figure out how to add Pin it buttons on my posts This turns out to be so much easier then I thought it would be. I added Pin in buttons to all my posts for the month of June.
4. Brainstorm 10 blog post ideas
5. Make a Blog/Work/Family schedule - should be done tonight
6. Set up a Twitter chat account
7. Open a Stumble upon account -  To be honest I found I don't really like Stumble upon so I don't think I'm going to end up using it - I did add Stumble upon button on some of my posts though
8. Add additional pages to my blog - I added a Grab My Buttons page and a Featured In page. I also redid my The Family page
9. Make and order business cards I can't wait to see how these turn out. I used my Scrapbook Max software to make them. They will be a square shape with a QR code on the back so people can access my blog by clicking the code with their smart phone.
10. Participate in at least 2 Blogathon Bash Challenges -  I leaned how to make a photo collage using PicMoney. Check out My Little Beauty Queen here and I created a Fav Con. Check out the tab on the top of your screen when you are open on me blog. Notice me new logo it's a T for Treasure of course.

I decided that 2 challenges was not enough, I completed 5 more challenges yesterday and this morning. I learned to create a better tweet on Twitter. I completed a blog notebook. I signed up for Picket Fence so please take some time to hit the picket fence button on the blog to vote for My Life's a Treasure. I read about different groups that offer blogging support and signed up for one called She Speaks. I was also introduced to three new Twitter Tools - Tweriod which looks at my twitter feed and determines the best times for me to send a tweet; Buffer which allows me to schedule my tweets based on the feedback from Tweriod and finally Twylah which turns my tweets into a very attracted magazine page. I had to request an invitation to Twylah so I won't see the results until I receive that.

I also read a number of  great blog posts that will help me as I grow as blogger - I am very excited to begin using all my new found knowledge.

My recommendation is this- if you are a blogger be sure to sign up for the Winter Biannual Blogathon, if you are not a blogger but are thinking of getting started - Do it! Then sign up for the Winter Biannual Blogathon.

I would like to that Kathleen at Callistas Ramblings for putting together the blogathon. I could tell it was a ton of work.

Until next time,
Karri

Our Favorite Things Link Party #3

It's time to party and share "Our Favorite Things" from the week. This week I just about doubled the number of links from the 1st party so I'm very excited because we are growing. The ladies who linked up shared some wonderful ideas, as always it was so hard to choose two favorites.

1. Jennifer at Crafolic shared a project she created to help her children practice straight line painting. I love this project because she also used it to teach her children about the true presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Her children's paintings came out beautiful and I plan to share this project with my our children and the preteen's I have in Youth Ministry.

2. Monica from Equipping Catholic Families shared the most unique idea for a present. She and her family created a video story book. They did a wonderful job posing for pictures to fit their one of a kind story. This is a gift idea that anyone receiving it would cherish.
So ladies grab my button and I look forward to seeing what you will be sharing this week.

My Life's a Treasure

Now on to the party - Here are your rules
Rule #1 Please add my blog button or a link code in your post.

My Life's a Treasure

Rule #2 Please follow My Life's a Treasure on GFC, RSS feed, Google + or Facebook
Rule #3 Please take time to visit a few of the other party guests and leave them a comment. Everyone loves comments.
Rule #4 Enjoy yourself and visit often. The party will be open to links from Sunday to Friday.

Until next time,
Karri

Blogathon Bash Mini Challenge #1

Biannual Blogathon Bash

Here is my first challenge of the weekend - How to Make a Photo Collage hosted by American Mom in England

I've been making photo collages with iPiccy but this tutorial was using PicMonkey.  I had heard about PicMoney from other bloggers but was always a bit intimidated when I tried to use it. Erin's tutorial was great and now I'm much more comfortable. Here is the collage I made of  "My Little Beauty Queen"

Alexa love playing in my makeup. In fact she uses it more then I do. Thanks Erin for your great tutorial and the chance to make such a great collage of my Boo.

Until next time,
Karri

My 5 Must Have Cleaning Supplies

I'm one of those lucky wives who has a husband who said yes to a house cleaner. So every other week a wonderful women comes to my home and does all the big cleaning, you know the stuff you hold off to do on the weekends like cleaning the kitchen garden window and everything on it; scrubbing the tub and shower; washing my kitchen cabinets etc. We choose to have her come because we enjoyed our family time and didn't want to spend it doing major house cleaning. This was worth the extra money each month.

This doesn't mean I still don't clean my home each day and I have 5 tools/supplies I couldn't live without that I'd like to share with you. Each allows me to clean my home quickly and without using harsh chemicals. I'm real big on getting rid of chemicals in my home. You can check out the websites for each of these products by clicking the links under the pictures.

 1. Swiffer Dusters - So much better then a feather duster that just pushes the dust back into the air and even better the Pledge because I don't have to spray any chemicals.
Source: Swiffer
 2. My homemade cleaners, check out my post here to see how I made them. I have a floor cleaner, an all purpose cleaner and a disinfectant spray.

 3. Mr Clean Flip it Duster - One side dusts and the other side mops. I have laminate floors throughout my house, being able to dust my floor, spray my floor cleaner and then mop it up all with one tool is a great time saver.
Source: Cleaner Home Living

4. Mr Clean Magic Eraser - I don't know how it works, but it does. I love being able to clean smudges off the wall without having to spray any sort of cleaner on it first.
Source: Mr Clean
 5. My final tool is my Shark Portable Steam Pocket - I was watching late night TV and saw the infomercial for this. When I saw it clean the mold off a boat I knew I needed to buy it for my dad as a Christmas present (he has a boat). I decided midway through the ordering I needed one too and I haven't regretted it. I can clean and disinfect my whole house with hot steam. No chemicals! I wanted to buy the floor steamer but they apparently don't work well on laminate flooring. The steam is so hot it melts the glue holding your floor down. Probably not a good idea. An added plus is that it doubles as a clothes steamer perfect for my clothing that I can't iron.
Source: Shark
So there you have it. The 5 cleaning supplies/tools that help me keep my home clean, disinfected and safe for my family. Plus they allow me to be able to spend treasured time with them.

Until next time,
Karri

Our First Tea Party

When I was a little girl my mom and dad started a tea cup collection for me. My mother had a friend who painted tea cups so each year for my birthday and Christmas I would get a one of a kind tea cup. As I got older my mom began expanding my collection to also include tea pots. I now have a beautiful collection of both sitting in my kitchen garden window.

I find it odd that I love tea cups and tea pots so much since I rarely drink tea. I actually don't really like it unless it's a fruit tea, anything herbal I can't stand. So to have this love of tea cups, tea pots and tea parties is odd.  I also don't remember having a tea party growing up although I'm sure I did at some point. Don't all little girls?

Two year ago I found out I was to be the mom to a little girl. At first I was worried, I was truly a boy's kind of mom into sports, superheros, science fiction and video games. How was I to relate to a little girl? Of course when our little Alexa arrived I related to her right away, we are truly cut from the same cloth and my love for books, fairies, butterflies, princesses and the things pink have enveloped her also.

For Alexa's baptism she was given a beautiful Pottery Barn tea set from a friend and for the last year it has sat on her shelf waiting for the day she was big enough to use it. Last week that day came and the dream of playing tea party with my little girl came true.

Alexa caught on quickly and we enjoyed our imaginary tea. She loved pouring it into the cups and then pouring the cup back into the teapot. She would hold up her cup so I could pour her some tea and of course my favorite part.....

Was watching her drink! She would tilt her head all the way back and finish with a satisfied grin.

Thank you Lord for giving me this time to treasure with my daughter, Amen

Until next time,
Karri

Jacob's Birthday Party

Friday night was Jacob's birthday party. He officially turns 13 next Sunday but we wanted to have his party before most of his friends went on vacations. Jacob has a friend who also turned 13 yesterday, his parents and I decided to combine the boy's parties since they were inviting the same friends.
I was given only one request from the boys - they wanted a DJ. That was easy since I have a friend who is a great DJ. I was then stuck with a theme - Jacob's parties have always centered around a theme, his favorite characters when he was young and sports as he got older. Inspiration finally hit when I found an idea of a hot dog bar on the Hostess with the Mostess website. Both Jacob and Tunde loved the idea and so the concept was born. Red, yellow and black became our colors.

On the Hostess with the Mostess website I was able to print the signs and tent cards for the hot dog bar and drink station. Guests had the choice of several topping for their dog such as cheese, peppers, chili, tomatoes and of course the traditional mustard and ketchup.

With my Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge from Close to My Heart I was able to make these star cupcake toppers. I stamped them using my CTMH Card Word Puzzle stamp set. Above the cupcake table I hung pictures of the boys growing up. I just hung some fishing line and taped each of the photos on it.

I made the favors using my Cricut again. The french fry boxes are also on the Art Philosophy cartridge. Each box was filled with candy then attached to a Powerade drink using foam tape.

We cleared all the furniture from our living room for dancing. We had a group playing basketball outside, and a group enjoying the music. I was able to take a few pictures of the party before Jacob pulled me aside and asked me to stop. My mom says this was pay back for all the times I wouldn't let her take pictures when I was in Jr. High. I kind of regret being so stubborn back then so as long as I have a camera phone I'm going to sneak as many pictures as I can.

Until next time,
Karri
